Music Magazine Final Analysis

This magazine was off Google. I chose to analyse this magazine because it stood out to me, as the image was broad and the title fitted in with it very well. I explained in my analysis what I like about this cover and why I chose it, who the target audience is and what I like about the layout. I also explained what differences I’d make to my cover- This is my final music analysis page and I will use this to get started on my own magazine cover.

Rolling Stone Magazine Analysis

These are some covers from the Rolling Stone Magazine, that I took from Google and used to analyse. The analysis involves texts, images, fonts and colours. Also, I noted what the image could mean and why they’ve used that particular image. I chose quite different covers, different types of music and bands, and even President Obama. Although he’s nothing to do with music, the magazine all together is a music magazine and I thought it was a different twist to use in my work.

Final Contents Page + Front Cover.

This my final front cover and final contents page together. I did try and get the colour scheme the same and I think they match well together. The same fonts and same sizes, similar image and the faded logo. I did fill in the gap just by extending the ‘how to drop a subject’ sentence- and I’m happy with the ‘busy-ness’ of it.

contents page, again.

I wanted to make it look a bit busier to suit the magazine front. I thought leaving the text at the bottom in the left hand corner, and having a large space to the end of the line made it look empty. So i thought I’d put the date on it to link it even more to the cover. Then I moved it around to see what I could get- and I placed it behind the text and lowered the opacity of it, so it was harder to spot, but made it look busier at the same time. I think it blends in really well with the whole scheme of the contents page and I’m proud of it. (:

I think I prefer the date being at the top as I think it works better, but leaving it at the top makes the bottom still look empty with the big space after the text. I would probably have to come up with another short sentence for a page eleven, or a make up a small sixthform notice that would fill the gap.

Contents Page 1

This is my first design for a contents page. I made the canvas size the same diameter as the front cover and I tried to use the same type of colour scheme. I used the same font, and a similar photo- a ‘non-serious’ photograph that makes the sixthform look like a good place to be. I also kept the idea of the school logo fading into the picture like I did on the front cover. I chose to have the contents all across the bottom because having it on the left covers Harry’s face, so that didn’t work.  I think it was a good idea to have them across the bottom in one big sentence because it’s original and different. I also changed the opacity of the photo to around 60% percent, otherwise you wouldn’t be able to see the text.

Design 1 Evaluation

FINAL

P1000152 copy2

I like this design. Even though it’s not as simple as I would have normally made it, I stretched my imagination and filled it up to make it look like a magazine. I have school ‘gossip’ written on the left side only, and I changed the font sizes to make it look traditional. I think if this was a real magazine, I’d keep the images funny and different, rather than where everybody’s working because it does give the sixthform an appealing look, and I think that the font suits the sixthform well. I like the shadows on it, I like the faded circle that the poppy is sitting in, I like the barcode because it makes it look like an actual cover, I like the image- it’s different. I like the faded logo at the top, and I like the font sizes and I like how natural it looks? This is my final second magazine design cover. (:
