Introducing The Characters

Here is the first video I have created with Premiere Elements with the first lot of footage that I filmed. This is not final; I was just practising to see what I can do with introducing the characters. This seems like the beginning of a movie documentary or something, so I won’t be using this technique in my final trailer. The soundtrack is Boomkat- Rip Her To Shreds. Taken from ‘Mean Girls’; my main inspiration for my story board.

I have chosen the characters for my trailer due to opposite conventions and individual characteristics. I chose Chris to be my lead male role because he has the typical conventions (look wise) to be the ‘nerd’. In reality, Chris is a popular pupil, which is kind of why I asked him to be the lead. Also, I want my nerd lead to be individual and unique- his hair colour adds to this. I think it works really well and it’s quite a typical and stereotypical convention of the ‘nerd’ of the story. I have gone along with Propp’s characters- Chris is the hero: reacts to the donor, weds the princess.

I have chosen Jordan to be my ‘jock’ of the story because in reality he is also a popular pupil, and I think he could play the part of the stereotypical ‘ladies man’ quite well. Jordan’s part of my trailer is to be the ‘reject’- the total opposite of Chris. I will have him and Chris competing for the girls, but the girls will be falling over to the nerd’s side, and the typical, stereotypical ‘jock’ will be left with no girls, alone and the total reverse of the normal chick flick movie. Jordan is playing the false hero: takes credit for the hero’s actions and tries to wed the princess/the villain: stuggles against the hero.

I have chosen Laura to be one of my ‘clique’ girls because she does well in group situations. I think she can do bitchy faces and take the stereotypical role well and I think her as a part of three, but also as part of a two works well. Her and Rose will be the two ‘serious ones’ whereas Lauren will be involved in that ‘clique’ but she takes nothing seriously, and is a ball of fun. I have stated that in my introducing video above.  Laura is playing the princess/prize: the hero deserves her throughout the story, but is unable to wed her due to villain’s actions.

Lauren is also one of the ‘clique’ girls. They are a part of three and I got my main idea from the movie, ‘Mean Girls’. I picked Lauren because she has no serious element to her what so ever. I like that she plays the ‘ditzy’ person in the clique. I partly used the idea of Chelsea from ‘That’s So Raven’. I used to watch the series when I was younger and Lauren’s general character in reality is bubbly, ‘blonde’ and wild. I thought she’d be a good candidate to play the equivilent of ‘Karen’ from Mean Girls in my trailer. Lauren is also the princess/prize.

I have chosen Rose to play the last clique member because she has a certain element to her general character that does well in groups. She does drama, which helps and I think she is good at playing the ‘leader’. She is generally a bubbly person and she’s very social. They all have ‘the look’ in which to play parts in the clique, and they’re all the potential ‘prize’ that Chris will have to choose. Rose is the last princess/prize.

I have added in another clique member just to make it a little bit more realistic. The plot in mean girls is the four girls and the one leader. I thought it was better to have that rather than two and a leader. I introduced Leah into the trailer. I think she is an interesting character and she enjoys playing the part. I like her characteristics- her hair, her figure and her all together person. I think she will do will in the clique and I intend to continue footage with Leah involved. She is another princess.

Some lovely character shots and ideas here. I hope you will be well enough to carry on your blog research at home and be back at school soon.
