Initial Research

An audience would expect from a magazine cover, an appealing colour, appealing image and a font that would be appropriate for the audience you’re aiming at. They don’t want to have to look for their favourite magazine, they want to be able to spot it a mile off. This is what I tried to do with mine; I used an appealing colour and an appealing image with a font that matched the word ‘classical’. If I had put a bouncy bubble font as my title, it would completley miss the target I am going for. This would appeal more to children and it wouldn’t fit, therefore I have a sophisticated font that is appropriate for the layout I have chosen.
Maintained Quality?

I think overall, my front cover and my double page spread are better than my contents page. I think the contents page and front cover look ‘finished’ but the contents page lacks the ‘class’ that the front cover and double page don’t. I think the colour scheme is better in the cover and double page, and I think I could have improved on the contents by darkening the purple banner which crosses with the black banner, and I think I could have used a better, more classy font. I think that the imagery used on the contents was appropriate and I think it looks good, I just dislike the colour of the purple and I think it’s tacky.

This is a just a powerpoint which closely evaluates the decisions I made for my front cover, contents page and double page spread. It includes the colours, layouts, imagery, fonts, adverts and why I used them.

Social Groups

I would hope that my magazine would attract mainly the same audience- ones who enjoy classical music. I wouldn’t want people to buy the magazine if they didn’t like that particular music type. I think i’ve represented my certain social group quite well because it’s obvious at a first glance that this magazine is not pop, rock, alternative or anything loud and aggressive. It’s calm and collected and I think the colour scheme is sophisticated enough to show that it’s classical. I think by using a younger model may also appeal to younger people as well as older people, and I think that widens my audience and opportunity to sell more. From my final magazine, I would expect my aimed audience to buy my magazine as this is the whole point in magazines- to sell it to your target audience.
Where might distribute my magazine?

I would have thought that my magazine would be on sale in successful supermarkets and convenience stores. I’d would have liked mine to be competing against the rest of the magazines that are on the shelf, and hope that mine would stand out the most. Although my audience wouldn’t be as big as a pop magazine’s would; (because of the type of music that I have chosen), I would hope that the way I laid out the contents of the front cover would catch eyes a little more than the teenage magazines. I’d like my magazine to be distributed all over and in as many ways as possible. I’d like it to be in stands around the supermarket because then it would appeal a lot more to people, whereas older people tend not to walk down the magazine aisles, therefore i’d have them placed next to some of the cashiers, customer services and randomly around the store just to catch attention.
