Design Ideas for Double Page Spread

This is my first idea for a double page spread. I chose to have the reflection on the right because it can fade into the writing. I played around in photoshop to get this result, but I’m still not 100% happy with it. I think I could do a bit more to make it look better. I may introduce her face into the reflection a little more. I got the reflection idea from my iPod-
If you click on the iPod image, the image on the screen is reflected slightly at the bottom. I’d like to use that idea for my magazine to make it look even more classy. I’d like to make my spread a little more busy than it actually looks, but then again I’d have all my writing at images on the other side. I did edit the brightness and contrast of the left image, and I lowered the opacity in the reflection image. I transformed it horizontally and I used the rubber tool to get rid of the rest of the image, but rather than a straight line, I had the fading rubber to give it the effect it has.

I did a photoshoot of my sister with the same background for my double page spread. I did change her hair and makeup, but I didn’t want to use a photo from the same shoot as before. I am most likely to use the first photo because I think it looks classy which is the main idea of the magazine.

I thought I’d have to change my design a lot because the idea of kerrang or pop music magazine was becoming far too common. I chose to do classical because it’s out of the ordinary and different. I chose this photo because the colours contrast and the purple is a very seductive colour. I think this picture kind of looks like a shot in the middle of an interview, which is why I chose it. I prefer having the text on either side of the page, rather than scattered around each one. I placed the barcode beneath the text to link it all together, and to make it seem full, I placed the advertisment beside the barcode. I only added a couple of exclamation marks because classical music isn’t exciting, busy or loud. I didn’t want to make it seem calm and relaxed.
final chosen magazine

I like this design. Even though it’s not as simple as I would have normally made it, I stretched my imagination and filled it up to make it look like a magazine. I have school ‘gossip’ written on the left side only, and I changed the font sizes to make it look traditional. I think if this was a real magazine, I’d keep the images funny and different, rather than where everybody’s working because it does give the sixthform an appealing look, and I think that the font suits the sixthform well. I like the shadows on it, I like the faded circle that the poppy is sitting in, I like the barcode because it makes it look like an actual cover, I like the image- it’s different. I like the faded logo at the top, and I like the font sizes and I like how natural it looks? This is my final second magazine design cover. (:

here is my upgrade- I put a bit of text on the side to fill it up more, but I prefer to keep things simple. I like the text, but if I am going to have text on it, I’d have to fill it up completley, leaving it too busy. I used Mr Robbins crazy scooter accident as funny gossip. sorry sir ;D

this is my second magazine design- it is aimed at sixthform students, rather than years 7-11. I put the poppy in the right hand corner to maybe persuade and remind the students that the 11th is rememberance day, therefore- do not forget to buy your poppies. I think the font was more appropriate, it is more sophisticated and even though the image is ‘silly’ it reminds people that school’s not a boring place and you can have a good time. I changed the opacity of the logo and I put a black shadow around all the edges. You can barely notice, but it I think it gives the magazine more of a feel. I like this design and I think I will use something close to this as my final.

this is just a first design and my first ideas. The original photo was for my confinement photography, so I don’t think it’s an appropriate photo to appeal to students at a school. I think it makes the school look like a place that locks people up
so I think I’d have to use a promotional photo and show people that it’s a supportive environment where everybody’s welcome. I like the black and white idea, and I like the writing changing size. I used the stamp tool to insert the school logo, and I like how it’s fading into the picture. This isn’t my final idea, I will change the photograph but keep the similar idea.
updated target audience and distribution :)

I completley changed my mind about the way I want my magazine to look – my school magazine will be for all students and will be kept simple. I don’t want it to look like it’s aimed at anyone, I’d rather it be available to anybody who wants it. The articles would be about the school, news and upcoming events.

I’m happy with the way my magazine turned out, I like the colours, the photos and the fonts. I love the way the pictures are blurred, and I think it looks kind of classy. I have the school colour- green as the background, and I have the date in the bottom left hand corner. I am happy with this and I will keep it as my final design.
